As a freelancer, Kavin Senapathy is paid by the outlets for which she writes, which have included Forbes, SELF Magazine, SciShow, Slate, The Daily Beast, Undark Magazine and more. For her speaking engagements and other appearances, she sometimes receives honoraria and speaking fees from universities, secular and skeptical organizations, and industry associations.  She's also the co-founder and contributing editor at SciMoms, where she currently volunteers her time to write and edit.

Starting in 2018, Senapathy’s policy has been to avoid accepting honoraria or speaking fees from any single company. Prior to this, she received speaking and travel fees from Bayer CropScience in 2016 to speak on a panel on “The Story of Food—What Drives Trending Issues and Makes Them News?” Outside of that, she has received no money from Bayer (or Monsanto).

Before that, in 2015, she received an honorarium from DuPont for a staff-only presentation on talking about science.

She also has a part-time role at her parents’ family-owned business, Genome International.

Industry associations Senapathy has spoken for and received honoraria from are:

  • Florida Fruit and Vegetable Association

  • Alliance for Food and Farming

  • National Association of Flavors and Food Ingredient Systems

  • Household & Commercial Products Association

  • International Food Information Council
