Kavin Senapathy

Writer | Journalist | Speaker

Welcome!

I'm Kavin (rhymes with β€œoven”) Senapathy, and my pronouns are she/her. I'm a freelance writer and journalist interested in health, food, parenting, and science. I’ve covered everything from the lack of diversity in human genomic databases to how natural parenting dehumanizes women to my own personal dance with Monsanto. I was raised atheist from birth, but I’m not one of those Atheistsβ„’.
I think science is amazing, which is why I often fall down rabbit holes of peer-reviewed literature. I also think science is screwed up. Like, men spent years trying to figure out why humans menstruate and came up with preposterous hypotheses that they then actually tested. I mean, imagine coming up with a so-called "menotoxin" that seeps out of menstruating people's bodies, causing flowers to wilt. Or, like, all of the straight-up racism that masquerades as "science." In peer-reviewed literature. To this day.
If you couldn't tell by now, I'm pretty into social justice and have been known to call out Status Quo Warriors (SQWs). I'm Indian-American, but I don't speak Hindi; I speak Tamil. My uncle Sathyaraj is a super-famous film actor, and he and my dad were my most influential atheist role models growing up. Also, I love dogs, I generally love humans, I have actual OCD, and if there's one piece of advice I can give as a 30-something brown woman, it would be the same piece of advice I always give my kids: No pedantry and semantics in daily interactions. It's counterproductive. Oh, also, never stop learning and growing.
Anyhow, thanks for stopping by. Take a look around, check out my work, hit me up if you like, and stay safe out there! Xo
